"Texas Parks and Wildlife. Have you wondered what you can do while your friends and family shop Fredericksburg? Drop them off and head for the Hills, choose from eight sites in the Peach Loop! Need a break along I-10? Sonora has four sites to check out! The 12 loops, with each loop designed for a weekend adventure, encompass 115 sites. The major areas included in this map are Laredo, Del Rio-Lake Amistad, San Angelo, and the Hill Country. The map includes San Antonio and Austin highways, but the Heart of the Hill Country East Trail has the actual viewing sites for the immediate San Antonio and Austin areas. This is one of two maps for the Heart of Texas, and one of six (soon to be eight) birding/wildlife trail maps produced by Texas Parks and Wildlife. They include more private lands than the Coastal Birding Trail maps (and hence require more pre-planning before visiting) and include more information on mammals, butterflies, dragonflies and other watchable wildlife. Each site on the Trail is marked with a unique sign and site number designed to coincide with the site description on the map. The Trail maps have information about the birds and habitats likely to be found at each site, the best season to visit, and contacts for obtaining food and lodging available in the vicinity. The icons are coded to indicate if there is an entry fee or camping sites available. Beautifully illustrated, text includes directions, best birding season, and what to see.
