Although we are a bit mystified by the change in format, this is still an appealing book. While the content and format remains the same, the publlishers elected to go with a different cover and binding, so we can no longer recommend it for it's durability in the field and comfort in the pocket. The quick guide index divides birds into land and water birds, then goes by shape. Many people like the illustrations which show the birds in their habitat, and often group look-alike birds together. This means that when you see a flock of warblers with lots of yellow and black, you can go to one page and see the most likely candidates together. While the original flexicover could be dropped in the water with no apparent damage, we haven't heard from anybody yet to see if this still holds true with the newer, harder cover.
