The graphic above shows you the areas covered in the Prairie and Pineywoods Wildlife Trail East (from www.tpwd.state.tx.us)
The latest set of maps in Texas Parks and Wildlife series of maps of birding and wildlife viewing trails, complete the area east of the Panhandle Plains, north of the Heart of Texas and west of the coastal counties. The Prairie and Pineywoods are essentially divided along IH-45, although the sites that are closer to Houston, like Huntsville, are included in the eastern map. These follow the same format as the earlier maps, with one side of the map being the road map with accurate and beautiful artwork of some of the wildlife (birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, butterflies and dragonflies etc.) you can encounter along the way. The areas are divided into color coded loops, with each site numbered. The back side of the map describes each stop, with information on how to get there, when to visit, what to see and visitor information (hours, camping available, fees, who to contact for more information).
The eastern map catches the rest of the Pineywoods and East Texas that were not covered in the Upper Texas Coastal Birding Trail Map, up to Texarkana and west to IH-45. See the description for the West map for a sample of the art work.
