Written by avid birders with an artist's eye for details (Alderfer) and a teacher/guide's passion for sharing (Dunn), this like taking a graduate level course on birdwatching that is appealing to the novice and the more experienced ready to move to a higher level. I like that some of the chapters begin with "Understanding" as it highlights that there are always learning opportunities when you are involved with birding and birdwatching. I also like the way the photographs have been labeled and captioned to clearly and quickly illustrate the text.
