"Tom Kaminski, Avian Video Center.
When we heard one of Texas’ Hummingbird experts describe this tape as jaw-dropping, we knew we had to take a look. There is indeed plenty of footage that shows amazing hummingbird behaviors, many of them shown in slow motion, so you can actually see what the hummers are doing. Spectacular slow motion, freeze-frame and real time footage shows them flying upside down, catching insects, fighting, nesting and brooding. A number of scenes show them engaged in generally unreported behaviors, including male threats aimed at nesting females. There is great footage showing a hummer build her nest and feed her hatchling. You can watch the hatchling's humorous efforts to avoid fouling the nest. The video shows 20 hummingbirds from the US and Costa Rica, plus other birds (mostly hummingbird predators!) in the region.
DVD, 53 minutes."
